Fanad Lighthouse Accommodation

Accommodation at Fanad Lighthouse is available all year round in three charming former lighthouse keeper’s homes, all with stunning sea views. Restored in 2015, the houses are full of traditional character but still offer every comfort for the ideal getaway.

Embrace the wildness of this beautiful location and take a digital detox from the modern world.

Accommodation at the lighthouse is self-catering with fully-equipped kitchens. The fire will be set up for your arrival and fuel is provided, as are linen and towels. The kitchen has essentials such as tea, coffee, sugar, cooking oil, salt & pepper etc. There is a minimum 2 night stay. All guests will receive a complimentary full guided tour of our working lighthouse.

Please note, there is no wifi in the houses, but it can be accessed elsewhere on site.


DUNREE VIEW (sleeps 2)

Brendan Behan, the famous Irish playwright, stayed in Dunree when he was stationed here as a painter for Irish Lights. Today, Dunree View offers a world of your own in a cosy romantic cottage that sleeps just 2 people. Enjoy your morning coffee on your private patio and be inspired by historic Lough Swilly, the Fanad hills, the rugged coastline and the secluded Trá Bán beach. INISTRAHULL VIEW (sleeps 2 - 4)

Inishtrahull View is a delightful self catering cottage that sleeps up to 4 people with a stunning east facing view of Lough Swilly. It has a double bedroom with king sized bed and a double sofa bed in the spacious living room. This would have been the home of the principal lighthouse keeper. Relive the life of a keeper but with modern conveniences in this beautifully refurbished house and take a walk around our magnificent working lighthouse. Look out for cetaceans or, at the right time of year, catch the Northern Lights. A totally relaxing holiday experience awaits.

TORY VIEW (sleeps 4)

Watch the sun rise over the Atlantic Ocean in Tory View Cottage. Sleeps 4 people with a double room and twin room. Enjoy its large country feel kitchen and dining area. There are stunning views from all sides - the kitchen faces south towards the Fanad hills and Trá Bán beach while the bedrooms look north to the Atlantic. Keep an eye out for the Aurora Borealis. Enjoy a glass of wine by the open fire, soak in the old-style roll-top bath, then settle down into your comfortable king size bed for a dreamy night’s sleep. Planning Your Stay

Wondering how long to stay for, or what to do in Fanad? Wondering what day tours you can do throughout the county using Fanad Lighthouse as a base? See our ‘Explore’ section for a selection of sights and activities in the region. The Fanad peninsula has a wealth of beaches, coastal and hill walks, water-based activities and an 18-hole golf links course within easy reach. There are picturesque heritage towns such as Ramelton and Rathmullan in the surrounding regions. Cross the Harry Blaney bridge to the Ros Goill peninsula for a leisurely day trip to explore more of north Donegal’s beautiful scenery. Head west taking in Doe Castle, Dunfanaghy and Horn Head, Glenveagh National Park, Errigal and Muckish mountains, or east to discover Grianan Aileach or the Inishowen peninsula, up as far as Ireland’s most northerly point, Malin Head.


Covid-19 Update

We are now open! The visitor centre will be open on Saturdays and Sundays in May 2021 and we will publish our full summer schedule shortly. Once again, due to COVID restrictions we will be offering grounds only tickets in May, followed by self-guided tours of grounds and indoor spaces from June.
